Samsung next week will unveil a rear projection DLP HDTV that's nearly as thin as a flat-panel set.
Odds are high, this will take place at CES2007. This will be a MAJOR development in the TV battle. DLP has lagged behind in sale mainly due to it's size. There's no doubt that DLP HDTV provides a good picture. The new set is going to target people that want a larger TV that can hang on the wall, but can't afford the cost. It's expected to come in the 50-60" range. It is expected they will immediately find competition from JVC, who also is announcing plans to launch a DLP that will hang on the wall.
We're not quiet sure how effective that strategy is since the cost of LCD and Plasma TV's have fallen so much. If a 47" can be bought for less than $2,000, just how cheap are the new DLP sets expected to be?
