Lcd/Plasma Makers and Retailer Suffer and We Benefit

In case you didn't see this mornings addition of the WSJ, there's a article on the front page discusses flat panel TV's this year.
Hefty Discounting of Flat-Panel TV's Pinches Retailers
According to the write up, retailers are basically selling the flat panels at BELOW retail prices! There is a price war going on this year and we all benefit from it. LCD prices have dropped, on average, 40% this year.
Any ideas on why they are selling these set's at below retail prices? They know that if they can get you into their store, odds are high you're going to but other items. It's a known fact that these TV's have never been that profitable. Like most items, the real money is made on the accessories. If you buy a 37" LCD for $799, they are banking on you also paying $150 for a set of HDMI cables, or perhaps even a wall mount.

Be smart about the shopping! It is possible to get a steal on a new HDTV flat panel this year, and still save a bundle on the HDMI cables!
